Swimming Shorts

Summer is just about to officially start, and now is the time when retailers all over the country are starting to add swimwear to their lines. If you are looking for a pair of swimming shorts for yourself or your family this season, here are some things to keep in mind...

Board Shorts

If the swimwear you are looking for are for children, then the most popular cut is the board short. Board shorts are generally around knee length and come in many different colours and styles. Keep in mind that for younger children board shorts may not be as good an option. For children that are still in diapers, board shorts do not offer enough protection, you will need to look at more snug styles. The main benefit of board shorts is that they are extremely comfortable. They are loose fitting and allo you plenty of room to move and breathe. They also give a lot more sun protection than other styles of shorts.

Another style of swimmers that you can look at are usually just called "shorts". Some people also call this style "trunks". They are not quite as long as board shorts, usually reaching mid way down your upper thigh, and they look very similar to a normal pair of shorts. The difference is that trunks are usually lined with polyester on the inside. This style of swimming shorts became popular in the mid nineties, when television shows like Baywatch featured this style heavily.

Briefs

There is also briefs, which are very snug fitting, and do not leave a lot to the imagination. These  are usually the cheapest option when it comes to mens swim shorts, but they are very restrictive and not for the modest. If you have the physique to pull off (pun not intended) a pair of briefs, then more power to you. Keep in mind that briefs have a bit of a stigma attached to them. You quite often see depictions of the big brawny man kicking sand in the face of the little weedy one, it seems that in a lot of these depictions, the big brawny man is wearing briefs, and the little scrawny man is wearning board shorts. The bully that drinks nothing but alkaline water and lifts weights five hours a day is not necessarily a person that you want to try and mimic.

There is a large style of colours and patterns to choose from when it comes to swimming shorts, but by far the most popular are the surf brands. These will have surf motifs, pictures of palm trees and waves and people surfing on them. Of course, these are not the only styles possible, and you should consider looking online before making your decision on what style to get. There is a lot more to choose from online than there is in your local surf shop. You can get swimming shorts with pictures of your favorite cartoon character, rock band, or even food. The possibilities are endless.

If you have a teenager in your house, you are going to find that they are going to be a lot more fussy about the brand of swimming shorts that they will allow you to buy for them. Generally speaking, brand names have become a very important aspect when it comes to clothing choices amongst teenagers, to the point where kids will get teased at school if they are not wearing this months "in" brand. It is important to educate your children about the absurdity of all this, but couple that with a little understanding, try and remember what it was like when you were a child in school. If you can afford to purchase designer swimwear for your child, then they will love you for life (or at least for the season).

If you are in a position to plan ahead, it's well worth your while to look around at what's available for sale in the way of mens swimming shorts around autumn time. Generally, retailers are eager to get rid of their summer range of clothing around this time, to make way for the winter stock coming in. Around this time you can get some great sales on all types of summer clothes. If the latest trends are an issue for you (or your child) then this may not be a viable option for you, because the clothes that you pick up this season may be well and truly out of style by next summer.

Regardless of what you end up deciding on, swimming shorts in general will always be in style. A lot of the people who purchase and wear these pants never even take them swimming, in fact a large amount of the sales of these items are made up of people who live in rural areas, many of whom have never even seen a beach. So whether you are a country bumpkin or a die hard surfer, a pair of swimming shorts are well worth purchasing, for both comfort and style.
