Shop And Save

It's no secret that times are really hard financially at the moment. As a result, most of us are doing our best to maximise our money and spend less. Stick with me and I'll teach you how to shop and save. If you're anything like me, the only thing better than going shopping is saving money, let me give you a few ideas on how you can have the best of both worlds.

One of the best investments you can make before you go out for your weekly trip to the shops is to buy the Sunday newspapers. Sunday newspapers are full of advertisements, coupons and a slew of comparisons between different prices of goods, and it can be delivered straight to your door, so you can do a lot of your planning before you even leave the house. Another thing you should do before taking off to the shops is to research some of the items you are planning to buy online. This is particularly true for larger purchases like electrical goods, as the prices can differ greatly from one store to the next, and you are more likely to shop and save if you have all the information available before commencing.

Shop Second Hand And Save

A great idea, if you don't mind buying slightly used goods, is to visit a second hand store. Second hand stores purchase items from people in your local community that are no longer needed for whatever reason. Another benefit of taking this approach is that you can shop and save, and help give back to your local community at the same time. This is especially true for furniture. It is really not necessary to buy all your furniture brand new, when there are so many second hand options available to you at a tiny fraction of the price. The beauty of buying furniture second hand is that you can do it more often. If you purchase a brand new lounge that costs you a fortune, you are more likely to be keeping that lounge for years to come, and you will quickly get tired of the same look year in and year out. If you shop and save by purchasing second hand furniture, you will be a lot more comfortable with the concept of swapping styles more often, keeping your home fresh and exciting. The end result is more money in your pocket, and a great sense of well being, knowing that you have saved these perfectly good items from ending up in the landfill. Of course, not all things in second hand stores are second hand. Companies are always donating their surplus to stores like these, and quite often you can get exactly the same item from one of these stores for less than half the price of the exact same thing over the road. Well worth keeping an eye on.

Clothing chews up a lot of our finances, and this is particularly true if you have children. Children grow so quickly that if they haven't worn holes through their clothes, they have probably outgrown them. Did you know that it's women that donate more than 80% of all items that end up at second hand shops? And the most donated items are children's clothing, not because there is something wrong with the clothes, but simply because their children no longer fit into these clothes and they don't have anyone else to pass them on to. Shop and save on clothing and you will notice a considerable reduction in your yearly expenditure. The same goes for shoes. A lot of the shoes that you find in second hand stores are brand name and fetch a huge price when bought new. A good second hand store will have hundreds of different sizes, styles and colours of shoes to choose from.

Sample sales can be another great way to shop and save. Sample sales are really exciting events, you get a great crowd of people to interact with and designers like to mingle and offer their goods for up to 50% off. It used to be that sample sales were only for one off items that were to be used by models and the like to showcase their wares. Nowadays, however, the sample sale is for everyone and some great out of season fashion can be had for amazingly low prices.

Finally, buying in bulk can be a great way to shop and save. This is especially true for food goods that can be stored in the pantry. Even if you do not want a whole heap of the same item, you could team up with neighbours and friends, decide what it is you want to buy, and buy for 6 or 7 families at once. The savings you will make from doing so will make it well worth the effort.

I hope this has given you some ideas on how you can shop and save. As you can see, just because times are tough, you don't need to be missing out on essential and non essential items. All you need to do is know where to look and you can get shopping, secure in the knowledge that you will have money left in your pocket at the end of the day.
