Office Space For Rent
68For many people, working from home is a dream. There are so many sites out there dedicated to helping people leave the rat race behind and do all their work from home. It seems like every second person has a plan that will help you to achieve that dream. There are, however, another group of people. There are people that have spent many many years working from home, and have finally come to the decision that it's not all it's cracked up to be. There can be many reasons for someone coming to this decision. One may be a more professional presence. If you have a business that calls for meetings with clients, you may not feel comfortable conducting the meeting at your own home. Of course, you can organise to meet at cafes, or even hire out a conference room for the meeting, but it becomes another regular expense and just does not look as professional to your clientele.
By far the biggest reason for someone deciding not to work from home anymore is that they need a place of work. Separating your personal life from your business life can be extremely difficult when you work from home. The computer is always there, and you end up thinking about the jobs that you could be doing when you should be spending some quality time with your family. If you continue down this track for too long, you will either burnout, or your family relationships will suffer. It is around this time that a lot of people will start looking for office space to rent. If you have decided to take the plunge and move your business out of the house, then there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.
Firstly, you need to decide on a budget. This is not as easy as it sounds, as you will find that there are a lot of expenses that you haven't even started to consider when researching office spaces to rent. For example, the electricity. Up until now, if you have been working from home, the electricity costs have been soaked up in your home use. If you haven't been diligent in monitoring your usage in the business as opposed to your personal usage in the home, then you may have little or no idea how much electricity your business uses, and you may be in for a rude surprise when your first bill arrives. You need to look carefully at what sort of equipment you use for your business, and start working into your budget the cost of that electricity.
Hidden Costs When Renting Office Space
Another expense that you may not have though of is furniture and office equipment. A lot of office rentals will come fully furnished, but this is not always the case, and the furnishings supplied with your office space may not necessarily suit your needs. Likewise, you will need to take into account that you will no longer have the luxury of all the conveniences of home. Without even being conscious about it, you were probably making use of all sorts of items in your house during business hours. For example, you are going to have to purchase your own kettle and coffee making equipment, a water cooler, some plants to liven the space up a bit, answering machines, printers, the list goes on and on. Speaking of the answering machine, you may have to set up a whole new phone number for your new place of business, and this will involve changing business cards, letterheads, envelopes, websites, and a whole range of office stationary that sports your contact details.
One of the main deciding factors when you choose your new office space for rental, will be size. This really comes down to personal preference and your businesses needs. Obviously you can save a lot of money if you don't have a problem with skimping on the size of the office. Small office space for rent is fine if it's just you and one other person, but if you employee a few people, or need machinery to run your business, then you are going to need a whole lot more space than that. For example, if you are a screen printer, then you are going to need room for all the equipment that goes along with that.
If you are on a tight budget, but are determined to find retail office space for rent that you can afford, then you may consider sharing. Sharing office space can be a real money saver, and still give you the freedom of having a true place of business. If you are considering sharing, then you will need to set down some solid ground rules before commencing, including each persons responsibilities and share of rental payments. You may want to look at approaching a solicitor to help you with this information, as you want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the arrangement. As long as you pick a business and people that you are compatible with (and are not in direct competition with your business), then this can be a viable solution to finding inexpensive commercial office space for rent.

I love working from home - except when someone rings up and wants to chat when I'm trying to work!
I could handle having an office AT home - the couch in the lounge has its limitations - not least of which is that I can't add an external monitor to the laptop!
Most of the time, working from home is a pain because of all the infernal interruptions.
A hub on office space for rent is an interesting idea. I find it really hard to work at home when anyone else is around. It will be interesting to see how much traffic this generates. Good Luck

I think more and more people are getting wise to the fact that working from home is not always as you imagined it and the lack of separation of your personal space and work space can be tough. Serviced offices are becoming more and more popular and there's a solution for most needs nowadays.
I tried working from home, but there are just too many disruptions. It was tough because renting space for my small business got expensive, and I needed to find a cheaper option. Luckily, I found out about Select Office Suites and that saved me a ton of money. They allow you to rent just the amount of space you need, instead of a whole big building. They also provide reception staff and meeting rooms to share with other renters.
