Choosing a Bathroom Sink

Many people who begin the process of looking at bathroom sinks get stuck, partly because they don't know what they are looking for and also because it's not something that the average person does everyday. There are a few things that you need to consider when choosing a bathroom sink, these include researching what choices are available to you, being realistic about your size constraints, and having a good idea of the places you can go to purchase your sink. If you follow these steps, you will be a whole lot closer to achieving your goal of a new bathroom sink.

Consider Your Options

The first thing you need to do is research your options. It is important that before deciding on a sink, you have a good idea of what's available, otherwise, you may just miss that perfect sink.

There are a lot of cheap options out there, and if the amount of money you have available is limited, then you can get a decent quality sink for a small amount of outlay. The cheapest (and most popular) bathroom sinks are the plain porcelain ones. You can also save a lot of money by buying second hand, but you need to make sure that you know what you're looking at as far as structure is concerned; you don't want to end up with a leaky sink a few weeks down the track.

If you have a little bit more money to spend, then there is a whole array of options out there available to you. Vessel sinks are becoming extremely popular these days, and although they are a little more expensive, they can certainly make a huge impact in your bathroom. The glass variety of these sinks is especially stunning, and will become a conversation starter when visitors come over. Then there are also copper sinks, which can add some old world charm to your bathroom. Of course, the price of the sink is not going to be the only factor when choosing your sink. You need to also keep in mind size constraints.

If your bathroom already has a lot of storage, then you may not need to take that into account when choosing your new sink. A lot of sinks come with large cupboards underneath that will allow you to store all the bits and bobs that tend to crowd your bathroom, but the downside is that these cabinets can take up a whole lot of space. If your bathroom is not very large, then you might consider getting a corner sink, these are extremely handy for smaller areas, and give you a lot more breathing room in your bathroom.

The other consideration you need to make is how many people will be using your bathroom? If you have a family of six or seven, then the more space you can create in your bathroom, the better. However, if it's just you on your own, or you and hubby, then you may be able to use some more of the spare space for your perfect sink. It's a good idea to talk to a salesperson before making your decision, as they will have more of an understanding of how much space these sinks are actually going to be taking up.

Where to Buy?

Of course, you may be considering purchasing your bathroom sink online, which has a couple of benefits. Firstly, you will be able to get a much larger range from shopping online; websites that specialise in bathroom sinks tend to have much more of a range than your average local store. On the other hand, you are not getting that personalised one on one service that you get with a physical store. As mentioned previously, sometimes it can be very helpful to go and speak to someone who specialises in sinks and get ideas from them. The concern with buying online is that you will have to pay for shipping, and with something as heavy as a bathroom sink, that can add up to quite a tidy fee. You will need to weigh up these options carefully before deciding on where you will buy from.

So if you are trying to choose which bathroom sink will suit you, keep in mind the limitations of your budget, the available space that you have, and the options you have for purchasing. If you keep these simple things in mind, you will be well on your way to getting yourself the perfect bathroom sink.

Having grown up in small bathrooms with sinks not vanities and no storage I love vainiteis! Don't like the new vesels - though - I like a nice smooth surface so its easy to clean. Love the pics on this hub

I have had small bathrooms my whole life and I can tell you that a vanity in the bathroom and a gorgeous but affordable bathroom sink can make all the difference when turning that boring room into va-va-voom!

I always wanted a vessel sink but thought I would hit my hand on one when I was reaching for something on the counter. LOL. I like the photos also, especially the kitty one.
