Cheap Rings

By

In these hard economic times, people are trying to cut costs as much as possible. It can be difficult to come to the decision that you are going to have to settle on cheap rings for your loved one, but a cheap ring is better than no ring at all, and as you will realise after reading this, just because a ring is cheap in price does not have to necessarily mean that it is cheap in quality.

Before we begin looking at what options are out there in the way of cheap rings, let's discuss a little history on the ring and look at what types of rings are available.

The History of the Ring

Rings have been around for thousands and thousands of years, and there can be no argument that there is some sort of mystical magic behind the ring, as people all over the world were wearing them and using them as symbols long before these different cultures met each other. The ancient Egyptians particularly used rings a great deal in their ceremonies and beliefs, as did the ancients Greeks, Asians, and even the Aborigines.

From all those thousands of years ago right up to today, the ring has held a special symbolic value to the human race. It is a symbol of love, of eternity, of promise and commitment, and these are the virtues that mankind hold more dear to themselves than anything else in the world. It is no wonder that the ring is considered such an important gift to so many people.

There are many different reasons for giving a ring...

  • A friendship ring is usually given either between very close friends or young teenagers to their first love.
  • A promise ring is generally used as a symbol of affection and commitment before a couple is engaged.
  • An engagement ring is traditionally given when an intention to marry each other is made public.
  • A wedding ring is obviously one that is given when getting married. This is considered to be one of the most spiritual and important rings that can be given.

Of course, these are not the only types of rings available out there, there are literally hundreds of different reasons to give rings, and just as many ring types to match each of these occasions. From Hawaiian Wedding Rings to Tribal Belly Rings, the options are limitless. Giving a ring can be a great way of saying Happy Anniversary as well.

Where to Get Cheap Rings

If you are wanting to find a cheap ring, the best aspect to look at is the stone. They say that a diamond is a girls best friend, but it can certainly cause some serious damage to the hip pocket if you are not careful. This doesn't necessarily mean that diamonds are entirely off the menu though, If you look around, you should be able to find diamonds with small flaws in them that will lower their cost quite dramatically. A flawed diamond, if chosen and set correctly, can look every bit as good as a flawless one. Some of these so called flaws are even imperceptible to the human eye.

If a flawed diamond is still above your price range, you could look at a Cubic Zirconia. Cubic Zirconias are stones that look very similar to diamonds, but are not as rare, and therefore nowhere near as expensive. In fact, you can get a good quality cubic zirconia rung for a tenth of the price of a flawless diamond ring.

There are plenty of other types of stones that you can choose from, such as rubies, sapphires, amethyst, emeralds, and many many more. It is a good idea to discuss with your partner what sort of ring suits them before even thinking about where you can get cheap rings. Just as there are many types of stones that you can choose from, there are also various types of metals that your ring can be made of. Of course, the two most popular metals are gold and silver, and all their variations,  but there are other types of metals, such as titanium and platinum that you could also consider, depending on your personal tastes.

Some other considerations that you need to thinks about when looking at cheap rings are; Do you want to get the ring inscribed? This will be an extra expense on top of the initial purchase of the ring. What shape will the stone be? There are many different shapes to choose from, the most inexpensive being the plain round or square rings. The more fancy heart shape or marquise style rings tend to be a little more expensive.

Their are a few different places that you can look to find cheap rings. For example, online is a great place to start because it will give you a really good feel for prices and what's available, without having to travel all over the countryside looking at jewellery shops. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't visit your local jewelry shops, just go there with a little knowledge of what you want so that you know what sort of cheap rings to look for.

A final option to consider is second hand stores. Some people have a real problem with buying second hand rings, because the ring has an unknown history, and they feel that history may somehow carry on the them if they wear these rings. The sad truth is that a lot of relationships fail, and when the friendship, engagement or wedding is over, these people no longer want that constant reminder that their ring gives them, so they end up selling it for whatever they can get for it. As a result, there are many second hand shops out there with an abundance of cheap rings.

Nice info - I got a cheap ring for my girlfriend recently at an estate sale. It is kind of bulky and funky looking. Really art-decoish, but it is one of a kind and it got me some awesome boyfriend points!

I was just thinking how the recession is going to be a great time for jewelry collectors to get a really good deal on vintage rings, from yard sales because the owners will need to sell them for cash.
