What is a "Bathroom Sink", and how can a person choose the best one for his home?

There are many things in life that we take for granted, such as having air to breathe, water to drink, and having a sink in our bathrooms to use whenever we need. That last item on the list, a bathroom sink, is not only a want for many individuals, but it has become a basic necessity of life, too. Bathroom sinks are essentially places where individuals can brush their teeth, wash their hands, comb their hair, do their makeup, shave, and engage in other habits. Many times, people will remodel their bathrooms or move into a new home and need to choose a bathroom sink or two, which sounds easy in itself, but usually is not. For example, there are many types of bathroom sinks available for individuals today. As an example, individuals no longer have that one, simple choice of a rounded, white sink. Now, they can purchase such items as wall hung sinks, pedestal sinks, and vanity-mounted sinks, each of which, of course, comes in many colors, sizes, and shapes to match the decor of their restrooms most effectively.

Experts recommend these tips and questions when choosing a bathroom sink:

1) Find the best sink to match the style of your bathroom: make sure it matches everything else pretty well.

2) Choose a color, size, and shape that fit with the rest of the environment of the restroom. For example, if everything in the bathroom is brown, you may want to go for a sink that is also of a brownish color. Do you want the sink to stand out, or do you want it to blend in with the atmosphere? Some shapes available include: round, rectangular, and oval. There are sinks that are specific to corns, whereas there are others that fit anywhere in the restroom.

3) Measure exactly how big of a sink you are going to need to fit into the area you are going to fill. Doing this tactic will allow you to know in advance what types you can purchase when you go to the store.

4) Will you want to have storage space below the sink? For example, many people like to store shaving gels, toilet papers, plungers, and other items below their sinks.

5) What materials will you want the item to be made of, and have you looked at the benefits of having each of these materials in a steamy, wet environment? As an example, some types of materials may get worse with exposure to water, and it best that you do your research online or from a professional before purchasing one.

6) How often will the bathroom be used? If it is not going to be used often (e.g., maybe for a guestroom), it probably will not need storage or much counter area. If it will be used often, perhaps by the masters of the home, then you may want to consider having many sinks put in for the husband and wife to get ready for work in the morning simultaneously, for example.

What is a glass bathroom sink?

Glass Bathroom Sinks: These sinks are made of thick and tempered glass. Experts recommend considering the following suggestions when considering a glass sink:

a) Will it be able to shatter in the area you place it?

b) They may show watery spots.

c) You may have to use cleansers that are nonabrasive.

d) They are perfect for countertop sinks.

These types of sinks, also known as "vessel sinks", are becoming one the most sought after in contemporary, luxurious and non-luxurious homes alike. They can be fused, slumped, under-mounted, hand-blown, or vessel-mounted to meet the owners' requests. Individuals may choose to have lights manufactured to accompany them, further adding beauty to them. Prices for these sinks can start out as low as $100.00, ranging up to $5000.00. The lower-priced ones are from other countries (e.g., China, etc.). It is generally recommended that individuals buy somewhat expensive glass sinks so that they last awhile, though, and that people purchase sinks from known designers, like in European countries and here in the United States.

Below are some of the techniques used to make glass sinks:

1) Cold glass: A process of using glass at room temperature. Examples are: mosaic, stained, glass carving, and etchings.

2) Warm Glass: This is the process by which glass makers fuse or slump at temperatures between 1000 and 1800 degrees Fahrenheit.

3) Hot Glass: Technique of blowing glass by means of a furnace. The furnace melts the glass at around 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. Typically, the artist forms the hot glass using an oven that stabilizes the temperature at around 1300 degrees Fahrenheit.  Finally, the glass is cooled in an oven.

Below are the types of crafted glass sinks:

1) Fused and Slumped: Fusing is joining together different pieces of glass. Fused glass is then "slumped" into vessel shapes to fit the proper molds of the sinks.

2) Blown glass: A hot glass technique in which glass is put onto the end of a pipe and formed, blown, and added into the vessel's shape.

3) Mosaic glass: Hand-cut colored art glass pieces are placed inside an annealed glass bowel, in which they are bended at high temperatures. Sand and cement are then mixed to it; finally, it is sealed and coated with polymer.

4) Hand painted glass: Equipping themselves with tempered glass, good artists can hand paint each sink. Thus, these sinks are unique, as no other will be the same.

There are many types of glass sinks, with many different designs and styles, from which an individual can select to complement their bathroom.
